Yi Dai
b. 1989, Changsha, China; lives and works in London.
Dai’s practice hinges on the balance between order and chaos. Her works are the final form of planned and regulated processes that create the conditions for material and chance to interact and create their own images. Her works are made up of a language or code which when deciphered, reveal stories told through the materials themselves.
After attending Kenyon College in Ohio, USA, Dai received the Mona Hatoum scholarship to attend Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Shortly after graduating she was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries, Tate Modern Creative Challenge, and the Louis Vuitton Commission.
