Julie Favreau
b. 1981, Québec City, Canada; lives and works in Berlin.
Julie Favreau’s practice is located at the crossroads of visual art and choreography: research into gesture and movement feeds into the production of artworks in diverse mediums from sculpture, to video, photography, and performance. Favreau's installations create intimate environments where viewers can relate to video in private worlds, changing the standard relation between viewer and screen.
Enigmatic figures create ambiguous scenarios in which the viewer's sensory awareness is heightened. Recent work has focused on topics around the female gaze and new perspectives on eroticism. Tapping into contemporary gender and social theory, these works offer new perspectives on the body, form, and sexuality.
